Chris Jericho reveals pride in risky AEW move

Chris Jericho is one of the most recognizable names in professional wrestling. He's been a star at every company he's worked for. So, he certainly turned some heads when he signed for an ambitious upstart in AEW in 2019.

His presence on the roster quickly added some legitimacy to the company within the casual fan bases of the wrestling world. He also legitimized the AEW championship for similar reasons.

Fast-forward to 2024, and AEW is thriving. The company has recently announced three major signings: Will Ospreay, Mercedes Mone and Kazuchika Okada. Those additions follow the arrival of Adam Copeland in 2023.

During a recent episode of the "Talk is Jericho" podcast, "The Ocho" revealed that he's proud of the risk he took to join AEW.

"The moment that I really have the most pride [for] in my career is taking the chance to help start AEW," Jericho said. "I knew that, if it worked, we could change the course of wrestling history. If it didn't work, it was a pretty big risk — it could tarnish your legacy. But what if it does work?"

As AEW continues to grow, Jericho's stock rises with it. Yes, he's an aging veteran approaching the end of his career. And yes, he's not everybody's favorite performer.

He is, however, one of the first genuine stars to trust the company's vision. He helped lay the groundwork for AEW's rapid growth.

Jericho's risk has paid off. He's helping provide an alternative to WWE's brand of wrestling, which is aimed at younger fans.

Jericho is already a wrestling legend; however, if AEW president Tony Khan ever decides to open an AEW Hall of Fame, the veteran performer will likely be the first name on the wall.
