Kylian Mbappe scored two goals on his 25th birthday, including a stunning strike from long range, as Paris Saint-Germain beat Metz 3-1 in their final game of 2023.

Vitinha fired PSG ahead four minutes into the second half on Wednesday after getting on the end of a fine cross from Lee Kang-In.

Mbappe then thrilled fans at the Parc des Princes just before the hour-mark when he unleashed a powerful shot from 20 yards that kissed the crossbar on its way into the net.

Matthieu Udol pulled a goal back for Metz but Mbappe wrapped up the victory with his 52nd goal of the calendar year in the 83rd minute.

Mbappe displayed his electrifying pace to pounce on a loose back-pass before evading a diving goalkeeper and tapping into an empty net.

Of Mbappe's 52 goals in 2023, 42 have been for PSG, with the other 10 coming at international level with France.

PSG end 2023 top of the Ligue 1 table with 40 points from their first 16 games of the season.

Nice sit second with 35 points, with Monaco third on 33.

The French league season will now enter a winter break before resuming on January 12.
