Packers made No. 25 pick with Jordan Love in mind

Who better than Jordan to protect Jordan? That's clearly what the Green Bay Packers were thinking for pick No. 25 in the 2024 NFL Draft when they selected former Arizona offensive tackle Jordan Morgan.

At face value, it was a surprising pick. Several top cornerbacks were on the board and Green Bay has a need across from Jaire Alexander. There was the distinct possibility that general manager Brian Gutekunst would look to address his offensive line in the early rounds, though, and in Morgan, the Packers are getting a 6-foot-5, 311-pound big man who can play tackle or guard in the NFL.

Not only is Morgan big, but he's also athletic, and that's what Gutekunst is always looking for in his top picks.

Per Packers Wire, Morgan's Relative Athletic Score is a 9.24 as an offensive tackle and 9.83 as an offensive guard. The best RAS out there is 10, so the Packers know they're getting an elite athlete in Morgan.

Morgan's addition makes even more sense when one considers the ascension of quarterback Jordan Love last year.

The Packers learned a lot about Love in 2023, mainly that he has what it takes to be a top-10 NFL quarterback. Just a season after trading away future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers, the Packets saw Love lead them to the playoffs. And he put together a tremendous playoff performance in Green Bay's round 1 trouncing of the Dallas Cowboys.

No, he wasn't perfect, but Love proved to have the talent NFL teams look for in franchise quarterbacks.

Getting said quarterback is step one, but step two is always protecting them.

With David Bakhtiari no longer on the team and guard Jon Runyan and swing tackle Yosh Nijman leaving via free agency, the Packers did have a major need on the offensive line heading into this draft.

The idea here would be that Morgan can provide great versatility for the Packers, and either way he should be a starter. He could become part of an incredible tag team of guards with Elgton Jenkin, but there's also a world in which him playing either right or left tackle would allow Zach Tom to play center, where he has all-pro potential.

Either way, the Packers will need Jordan to help protect Jordan.
